The Government of Canada has announced a $12.5 million investment through the Strategic Response Fund to support ADF Group’s $52.3 million modernization project at its specialized steel production facilities in Terrebonne and Métabetchouan.

This investment will enable ADF Group to equip its Terrebonne manufacturing plant with new equipment to fulfill a multi-year contract to supply transmission towers for Hydro-Québec. The Métabetchouan facility will also be upgraded to meet growing demand for heavy steel structures used in the hydroelectric sector.

What it means for jobs

The project will create at least 100 new jobs while supporting more than 525 well-paying existing positions throughout its implementation. It’s positive news for Quebec’s steel and metal fabrication industry, particularly in the Terrebonne and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean regions.

Why this matters for manufacturing talent

Founded in Laval in 1956, ADF Group is a well-established manufacturer of structural steel, heavy steel components, and architectural metal products. With this modernization project tied directly to strategic Hydro-Québec contracts, the company is entering a new phase of growth that will require welders, fitters/assemblers, machine tool operators, and technicians specializing in structural steel fabrication.

At a time when many Quebec manufacturers are struggling to find skilled tradespeople, this type of government investment—combined with a strong backlog of strategic energy-sector projects—creates exactly the kind of stability and long-term career opportunities that skilled manufacturing professionals are looking for.

If you work in metal fabrication, welding, or structural steel assembly and are looking to join a growing company, this is a project worth keeping on your radar.
