About the Opportunity
Our client, an established CNC machining shop with several decades of experience, specializes in precision machining for various industrial sectors, including hydroelectricity, specialized equipment, utility vehicles, and mechanical component manufacturing.
The team of approximately 15 machinists works on a wide variety of projects, with frequent part changes and a high level of autonomy in completing their work.
What You’ll Do
You will develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs directly on the machines (G-Code), primarily on Haas machining centers with Fanuc controllers.
You will perform complete machine setups, including:
- Installing parts and fixtures.
- Tool presetting.
- Loading programs.
- Inspecting the first piece and adjusting offsets as required.
Once production begins, you will:
- Monitor the machining process.
- Select appropriate tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds.
- Quickly diagnose alarms, tool wear, or errors to minimize downtime.
- Perform quality control using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Verify tolerances and document inspection results.
You will also:
- Read and interpret complex technical drawings.
- Perform calculations related to dimensions and tolerances.
- Contribute to routine equipment maintenance and follow safety procedures.
What We’re Looking For
- Significant experience as a CNC operator/programmer, ideally on Haas machines.
- Strong knowledge of CNC setups and direct machine programming (G-Code).
- Experience with Fanuc controllers is an asset.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and knowledge of machining tolerances.
- Ability to work independently and troubleshoot machining issues.
- DEP in Machining Techniques or equivalent training is an asset.
- Experience with multi-axis machining (3, 4, or 5 axes) is an asset.
- Experience with other CNC milling machine brands (Takumi, Mazak, Hyundai, Fadal) is an asset.
- Knowledge of Mastercam is an asset.
Work Environment
General CNC machining shop environment with small-batch production and varied parts (typical batch sizes of 10, 15, or 50 pieces), with frequent production changes.
